Judgment is a multifaceted word. Good judgment, bad judgment, fair judgment, biased judgment, impaired judgment, judgment day an so on. Perception--what we believe to be true from circumstances that relay information to the mind's eye, is subjective. My goal is to attempt to provide an objective perception of sound judgment.
In Philosophical terms an argument is intended to present good, logical reasons (premises) that support a conclusion. This is a form of critical thinking that is derived from the Socratic Method. This method of argument must examine and question assumptions, provide evidence and reach a conclusion. For the conclusion to be true, the premises must be unquestionably true. Deductive reasoning represents a valid argument according to the criteria presented in this blog. Critical thinking is crucial to objective judgment.
Sound judgment is based on reason, solid evidence, insight, knowledge, intelligence and experience. Having said that, I personally believe that intuition and plain old down home common sense go hand-in-hand with making informed decisions relating to judgment. Education is also a great asset but without common sense it is of little consequence.
I agree with you! Common sense (sadly not all that common) is a huge asset in making all decisions, large and small.
ReplyDeleteSo you are saying judgement and common sense are related? Such a novel idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and well said.
Thanks guys. I am really rusty but I have missed blogging. I was up late last night doing this and should have waited until today to review and make revisions. It's a start!
ReplyDeleteLove the common sense angle..so many folks just don't have it. Those that do, use it well on all their daily little judgments.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
